Smt Krishnaveni Putrevu, the esteemed Artistic director of Utkalaa Dance Academy, is dedicated to the promotion of the Odissi dance form in its most authentic and unadulterated essence. Under her leadership, Utkalaa Academy endeavors to showcase the rich traditions of Odissi, tracing back to Ancient and Vedic periods, to diverse audiences globally. Trained in the distinguished style of Padmashree Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra by Guru Sri Naba Kishore Mishra, she brings a deep-rooted understanding of this classical dance form. Although originally from Andhra Pradesh, her upbringing in Orissa deeply immersed her in the Odissi culture.
Smt. Putrevu is a distinguished alumnus of the Lalit Kala Academy, Allahabad, India, and Chandigarh University, where she earned her degrees in Odissi dance. Her performances have not only spanned across India but have also been acclaimed internationally in countries such as Norway, at UNESCO events, and the Bahamas, among others. Based in Irving and Plano, she is a prolific performer, choreographer, and educator, known for her award-winning performances that have garnered widespread recognition.
Her pedagogical approach extends beyond dance instruction, emphasizing the importance of dedication, love, and discipline in the arts. Her students are testament to this philosophy, actively participating in major charities and organizations to further the appreciation of Odissi. Residing in Dallas, Texas, with her husband and two sons, who are both classically trained in voice and violin, Smt. Putrevu continues to be a beacon of cultural preservation and artistic excellence.
